I still remember the thrill that opening my English school (English Study Centre) gave me when I was only twenty three. I was young but English had always been my passion, and teaching it was a good excuse for being able to practise it and continue widening my knowledge of the language.
At first, the school specialised in teenagers and adults but it didn't take long for me to realise that what the newspapers have been telling us for some time is right: despite the years students spend learning English, their average proficiency is extremely low. How disappointing! I was determined to keep my students from becoming part of these statistics, which confirmed the failure of the system and traditional teaching methods.
That is why in the year 2000, after becoming a mum, I began to take an interest in the idea of linguistic stimulation from an early age. I wanted to give my daughter the best start in life and, naturally, this included learning English. Therefore, in the same year, I expanded the school facilities to enable teaching of children from the age of three. At that time, there was nothing on the market of any quality for my students and, watching how my daughter was learning English, I decided to develop and implement my own methodology in 2003: Kids&Us English for Little People.
After three years of testing, revising and perfecting the material and methodology in the Manresa school, I decided to offer it to other language schools throughout Catalonia. This meant that I was able to obtain funding to continue developing the method while ensuring its high level of quality.
In 2007, we began opening franchise schools called Kids&Us School of English. There are currently 574 schools in Spain, Andorra, Italy, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Japan and Mexico, and more than 150,000 children learning English using our methodology. I am constantly working on and developing new ideas to continue providing the best resources possible to all those people who have placed their trust in Kids&Us.
